Matilda the Musical

This movie has a lot of the problems of other modern day films, in that it is far too long and scenes that should have been cut out are kept in. The story follows the story of Matilda, and the events that happen in the film are the same as in the earlier version of the film. The difference, of course, is that this is a musical, and the previous version was not. Some of the songs are catchy, and the choreography and set design are visually stunning. Alisha Weir and Emma Thompson both do an excellent job in bringing their characters to life. The film hits all the same emotional and even visual notes as the earlier one, except that it's a musical. The songs are quite good, but sometimes they don't make any sense. For example, there's one where Miss Trunchbull goes off fantasizing about horses for a while? And the penultimate song is one in which the children claim to have a revolution, play this time the villain has already been dealt with. The beginning sequence of babies being born and eventually the birth of Matilda is amazing. As is, the choreography throughout. So while this is a good film, I do not think it will have the same resonance of its predecessor
