Tomorrow: K Drama

This is one of the worst shows I have watched in quite some time. Let's get all the positives out of the way first. The idea of the show is quite interesting, a sort of Suicide Prevention Squad from the afterlife. A few of the episodes are quite moving, especially the one that deals with school bullying and the other that deals with a case of sexual assault. The actors that play the characters in these episodes do an especially great job. There is one episode, that seems like it's from another drama entirely. It tells the backstory of the main characters, and it's good. Now for the negatives. It seems like the level of talent of the writers of each of the episodes varies quite wildly. Some episodes, like those that I've mentioned, are either good or acceptable, and others are just boring or bad. The main problem is that the series introduces ideas that it doesn't explore. There's one episode, that could have been quite interesting, as it dealt with pet suicide. But it ends up being a cliché. There is another episode that seems to suggest that every country has its own afterlife. This is just mentioned so that one of the characters can save some Korean Souls from Evil Japanese grim reapers. But it's a quite interesting idea that morality is not only relative on Earth, but that it would be relative in the afterlife. And not only that it would be relative throughout time. So for example, in the time of this series, those evil Japanese characters, might actually be considered to be good in the Japanese afterlife. Also, it's kind of interesting to consider for example how that would be applied to our own world. If for example you were a tourist in India and you died, would you go to the Indian afterlife or your own? The series doesn't explore any of this, which makes it much less interesting than it could have been. Its main idea that the afterlife is a bureaucracy has been done better in many other films. Uncanny Counter takes a similar premise and does it much better. It actually explores some of the impact that these magical powers have on people. But with this series, there's so much that's not explained. For example, the characters, who are all grim reapers talk about this being a nine to five job, and how they go home after it, but where would a grim reaper actually live? Would they watch TV? Would they have a pet? If these questions are not answered or even thought about. The series itself is inconsistent. There's one character who never works past 8 hours because he is looking for someone who is reincarnated on earth now from his previous life. There's an entire episode dedicated to this story, where he finds this person, so after that point this character doesn't need to only work 8 hours any more. But in another episode, it is mentioned that he will only work 8 hours. This character also does this disgusting thing that is presented as being cool where he picks his nose all the time. And another thing that makes this series so atrocious is its obscene amounts of product placement. I don't necessarily have any problems with product placement because we live in a society in which we use products all the time. It would be stranger if somebody was drinking for example a cola that it wasn't a brand name Cola. I understand that. This begins when the characters meet in a Korean coffee chain shop to discuss one of their cases. This chain shop then appears multiple times throughout this series. The characters order things from the shop and close up shots are given of the products, and the characters enjoying them. In fact, anytime the characters eat anything, it is from some sort of chain restaurant. There's one scene in which a character is sent to buy something, and he is shown ordering food from his app in his car. I don't remember the brand of car, but it is also lovingly shown. Then he drives his car to a convenience store to pick up his food. And the name of the convenience store is also lovingly shown. So a lot of the series just feels like a long ad.
